SMOOTH COLLIES

I
had great pleasure judging the Smooth Collies at the recent
show.
The quality
of the exhibits was as I expected, being of a high standard.
In fact superior to the Smooths I judged in the U.K. in March.
Presentation
was good, most of the entry was good in shape and overall
balance, and to see the reach of neck on some was quite inspiring!
Movement
in general was good, with just a few which were rather loose
in front, but sound behind.
The veteran dog in particular being an outstanding example
in movement.
Temperament
was good throughout the entry, Tail carriage caused me some
concern, but this does seem to be a problem wherever one judges.
My main
concern was eye colour, several being light in eye including
tricolours which failed in this respect
One other
point I would like to make.
Any Collie looks better when shown on a loose lead, and not
the handler kneeling in front of the exhibit with food in
one hand, thus making it difficult for the judge to assess
it, by constantly having to drag the head away from the titbit,
in order to handle it.
To the
Smooth Breeders of Finland, may I congratulate you on the
standard of the Smooth Collies, they were a pleasure to judge,
keep up with the good work you are doing for the breed!
I would
like to Thank the Finnish Collie Club for inviting me, and
wish you continued success in the future.
Jack Wigglesworth (Judge)
