LEEDS CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
28TH JULY 2003

SHETLAND SHEEPDDOGS

Dogs.

It was a pleasure to judge this wonderful entry, with some superb dogs on view, It was inevitable that so many top class dogs were left out simply by the in depth of numbers, which is not only disappointing for the exhibitors in question, but equally so, for me as a judge for not being able to place them.
I thank everyone for supporting the show and for breeding such good dogs, which can compete well at top level.

MPD. 17 (1) 1. Rigby's Japaro Robaidh. By far the most mature in this class, and the obvious winner, bright o/s of almost 9mnths,invery good coat, lovely outline, with good neck, level back, good front, depth & hindquarters, he has a lovely head with well filled skull, moulded foreface, pleasing eye & expression his ears are right on top of his head, which he used continually, moved steadily just needs to firm up in hind action a really promising young man.

2. Weller's Evad Sommer Tides. Sable 6mnths & 3 days in consequence a very raw baby, despite his extreme youth and lack of finish, he has everything there to come, his head is lovely to handle, he has a superb neck & backline & upper arm, good depth & spring of rib, and g. bone, he was especially sound on the move, and certainly has a confident outlook, using his ears continually, he has a well placed eye giving the desired expression. Only needs to mature on to gain a reputation.

3. Bendelow's Moon Illusion of Amethricken.

PD. 10 (5) 1. Norman's Francehill Only Me. Stood out in this class as the obvious winner, pale g/s of 11mths in good coat, & very glamorous with a full white collar. He has the most beautiful wedge head. Good stop, moulded forface most lovely eye & expression, neat ears which are right on top, using his good neck to showhimself, good depth of rib, vg.bone, topline & hindquarters, moved quite well, although he had other intentions when coming towards me, which didn't help his handler, however, eventually he settled into a steady gait, and presented a most attractive picture in stance, Best Puppy.

2. Martin's Shellthorn Ray of Sunshine, a very nice type, with a lovely outline, and super mover, and especially good in hindquarters, I would like him to carry a little more body, but he has obviously been introduced to the opposite sex, which has affected his body weight, he looks to have lost a little coat underneath him, however, he possesses a lovely wedge head with flat skull, good stop, well filled forface, nice eye, and pleasant expression, and good ears.

3.Saunders Cresteak Call Me Bond of Fernfrey.

JD. 5 (3) 1. Pearsons Edglonian Impossible Dream 14months g/s of quality shown in full coat, he is a beautiful sheltie, with a very good head, well filled skull & moulding of forface, well placed eye, & neat well placed ears, he is in complete balance, with adequate neck, good bone, front, depth of rib and turn of stifle, it is a puzzle to understand why he is sometimes disturbed, as he was quite confident on the table, his handler was sympathetic towards his temperament, and handled him accordingly, he eventually settled down and deserved to win this class.

2. Shaw's Della's Little Fella this fellow had the most beautiful head & eye, giving the most lovely expression, good neck & backline, I feel his movement could be more positive both in front and behind, and I would prefer him a size smaller. Nevertheless an attractive dog.

SYD 5 (!) 1. Scotts Degallo The Legend JW Red sable of 20 months, in full coat, he presented a most attractive picture with v.g. outline and depth of rib, I especially liked his head with well filled skull, good stop, forface & underjaw, he has a well placed eye, & good ears, which he used quite well at first, then enough for my written assessment of him, his movement was especially good & very sound.

2. Della's Little Fella

3. Mottrams Japaro Shotgun of Lochkaren JW

MD 8 (1) 1. Evad Sommer Tides

2. Cresteak Call Me Bond of Fernfrey this is also a very nice dog, which I seriously considered placing higher in the puppy class he has a most lovely outline, uses his excellent reach of neck to present a good overall profile, he has good shoulders & backline, plus depth of rib, very mature in body, and good bone, shown in good coat, and he has good hindquarters, I liked his flat skull, and lovely eye & expression, I just found him very mature & slightly strong in forface, no doubt will be heard of again

3 Goodwins Highbrook Harlequin.

UGD 8 (2) 1. Aaron's Mistmere Make A Wish for Shelridge Tri of just 14mnths, which took my eye on entering the ring. Using his assets to present a most attractive silhouette, ideal size with good bone, I adored his head with v.g. Ears and his beautiful dark eyes giving the sweetest of expressions. Which won me over, his coat was jet black and his level backline, & sweeping hindquarters, enhanced his overall profile, when moving he initially started to pace going away, however, he eventually settled into a nice steady gait.

2. Carters Hillhead Blue Star a prefix which produce some excellent merles. And this boy was no exception; he was a very striking colour, with a lovely moulded head. Good forface, stop and underjaw, nice expression & good ears, good topline and hindquarters he can give the illusion of being bigger than he is, having lost some of his coat, again began pacing, but moved adequately eventually just preferred the eye & expression of 1.

3. Glovers Doonelodge Wild Rose.

GD. 8 (1) 1. Hateley Mohnesee Mr Palmer JW. Appealed immediately, most lovely tricolour of 14months who took my eye for his overall profile, he moved with real drive especially in profile, with good front extension and kept his topline on the move, he had a beautiful neck & body outline, he also has a lovely head, but ideally I would prefer him with more filling in forface and to be a little more masculine in outlook, however, because he is still only very young I consider this to be a minor detriment, perhaps he gives this impression because of his very sweet eye & expression he has a well filled skull, good stop, and beautiful ears , I am not surprised to see he has obtained his J.W. And should mature into a top class dog.

2. France's Shellsu Mr Noise Parker at Shekkeina. Another tri with Jet black coat, & at 4yrs old obviously much more mature then 1, but gained my attention for his very good movement & shown in excellent coat & condition, he has good body & depth of rib & possesses a good head. With well-filled skull, moulded forface & good underjaw, I would just prefer him a little darker in eye and therefore just lost out in expression to 1.

3. Atkin's Esstremere Blue Comet.

PGD 14 1. Goodwins Highbrook Hi Tech 2yr old Red sable in top form, beautiful condition in full coat, he has the most beautifully moulded head, with flat skull, good forface & stop, well placed eye & good ears handled very well, he is a well constructed dog, with straight front, good backline and moved very well.

2.Smith's Shelmyth Special Envoy I really liked this young man for his gorgeous head & eye, has most of the attributes of the winner, not quite the same body length, however he was in balance, and I liked him a great deal, he had not quite the length & finish in coat but no disgrace to stand 2nd as this was a very nice class.
3.Bendelow's Amethricken in Ash,

LD 21(3) this class had some superb dogs present and only by splitting hairs could they be separated,
1.Hardman & Robinson's Seavall Seamus when I first saw him, he really made such an impact upon me, I found it hard to look away, as he just exuded presence and charisma, I think he is outstanding for type, and in my opinion presented a picture of a typical sheltie which I have in minds eye! His head was a joy to handle, with everything I could wish to see, topped with beautiful ears, and the most exquisite eye giving the expression so full of merriment, I found him quite stunning when viewed in profile, he has the correct neck & shoulder, level topline, sweeping hindquarters, together with excellent movement, his rich sable coat just gleamed plus all the glamour to go with it! It gave me great pleasure to award him the CC & B.O.B. and delighted that he achieved Group 3. Congratulations!

2. Paynes Seavall Benedict at Neraklee I see was bred by the same kennel as 1 Very striking Blue merle with racy outline, his tan could be more definite, having said this I found everything else quite lovely he has a good neck & backline, and excellent turn of stifle he has a good head, which is rather pebble dashed in markings, with neat well placed black ears, his eye & expression is quite beautiful, he has good pigmentation which enhances his overall outlook, he met stiff competition for top honours but when he came into the ring to challenge His whole demeanour just asked for the Res CC which he truly deserved.

OD. 14 (2) 1. Franshams Ch Ottaberry Onliner 5yr old Mahogany sable in sparkling condition, This dog, has a great deal of class, and never put a foot wrong, he has everything in proportion, with no exaggeration, and was a joy to handle, he was a very good example on the move, so ultra sound , lovely overall profile, ideal size, lovely clean wedge head, dark eye, with pleasant expression, good ears which he used, and responded to his handler throughout.

2. Rigby's Lythwood Spin Doctor When this boy came into the ring, g/s I thought he would be my winner, as his body profile is quite superb, he has the most beautiful outline, and despite losing some of his coat, this was not a disadvantage, his neck & shoulder and upper arm, are all one could desire on handling, he also has good topline, excellent backline, croup & hindquarters, which enabled him to move so soundly, he has an attractive head when standing away, as he has a good forface, underjaw & lipline, and very good ears, however, I found him rather wide between his eyes, which detracted somewhat from his expression, excellent presentation and handling.

3. Giddings Lysebourne Stormcrest

BITCHES

MPB 27 (6) 1. Hardman & Robinsons Seavall Smartie aptly named, as she really is a little smartie. Well advanced for her 8mnths, I see is sired by Seamus, therefore it was not surprising I saw in her the features that I so admire in her father, she is shaded sable, groomed to perfection, came in the ring with all the confidence and attitude, showing off her neck & outline and looking who could be the possible 2nd ! Lovely sheltie head with flat skull beautifully placed ears, correct stop and well filled forface, with a tiny white smudge, she had a delightfully enquiring expression, which came from her well placed almond eye, moved with purpose, as she is well angulated behind, I am sure she will charm many more judges in the future.

2. Bendelows Amethricken Maid to Dream a very pretty g/s who caught my eye she is a lovely make & shape, and so ultra feminine, she has a very sweet head. With a lovely eye & expression, vg ears , she
Was showing quite steadily, but became bored with the long wait for my attention, and decided she to look the other way, I think this bitch has all the essentials to mature into a beautiful adult, it will be interesting to follow her career.

3. Botham's Balidorn Making Magic with Mistyisle.

PB 4 (2) What a contrast form such a large Mpb to see only 2 exhibits present in this class, which was headed by
1. Bywaters Tachnamadra Time Will Tell despite this class being numerically small. This puppy could hold her own in any competition, she is a shaded sable with the outline that befits the standard, she has a superb neck & shoulder, level backline, & length of body, good turn of stifle and sweeping tail, shown in v.g. coat, she has a tendency to stand rather slack in front at times, otherwise, I found her to have a most lovely head with all essentials, a very nice exhibit. BPB

2. Clubley's Mossvale Moonlight Bay 10 mnths tri who had a very good body, good neck & shoulder and depth of rib, she also has a good stop, and well-filled flat skull. Unfortunately her movement was rather erratic, as she seemed rather apprehensive, constantly looking behind, being disturbed by the wind against her ear carriage, needs time to settle with more confidence.

Junior bitch 16 (5) 1. Clubley's Mossvale Cornflower I know this merle is very heavily marked with black, but I could not get past her outstanding profile, she has rich tan markings, her white was sparkling by contrast which only emphasised her full collar, to take the eye. She has a lovely head
And a most beautiful eye & expression and showed off her virtues to the hilt, in her eagerness for bait, she can stand badly behind on occasions, but this did not affect her movement which was quite good

2. Perkins Calanbray Cassia sable who appealed greatly for type, she was so feminine without weakness in body or bone, at 14months she looks as though she has lost her puppy bloom, despite this I found her lovely on handling, she has elegance in outline, and moved quite well, she has a clean wedge head, with good stop, sufficient foreface and a very sweet eye & expression, and neat well placed ears, just lacked the furnishings of the winner, she is a quality bitch, whom I feel has all the attributes to take her further as she matures

3. Staffords Rannerdale Angel O the North.

SYB 9 1. Briggs Briggsview Pipes of Peace. Very pretty feminine merle, who has a lovely outline, and moved very well, she has a very nice head with an attractive white blaze, she was also good for size, perhaps a little heavily marked, but most of the merle's were in this class, she had the sweetest of eyes giving the desired expression, which decided the placing over 2.

2. Spooners Maisy Lass of Blues, another Blue, who had a beautiful profile & excelled in outline, lovely neck, straight front & sweeping hindquarters she has a moulded head, and has blue eyes, unfortunately her ears are a little heavy which spoilt her expression somewhat, rather heavier in type and more mature than 1, moved really well round the ring.

3. Thomas's Myter Pie in the Sky.

MB 7 1. Bywaters Tachnamandara Time will Tell.

2. Norman's Francehill Made of Ice 15months merle with an elegant outlook, she needs to clear in colour, as she is showing rust overtones in her coat, she has rather heavy markings on her head & ears, looking past her markings I found she has a nice head, and well placed eyes and appealed in outline, and I liked her stance, moved well going away, but not quite so true in front.

3.Hull's Lizmark Frosted Fern.

UGB 9 1. Aarons' Shelridge Chasing Rainbows 2yr old merle, with a lovely outline, very well bodied, and good bone.she carried a very good coat, which was beautifully presented, quite glamorous in outlook, and her handler had made the most of her, she has a nice head, if a little short, one blue & brown eye giving a nice expression, she moved quite well, she presented a good overall profile, her ears are rather heavy and wide set, which detracts slightly otherwise she is a nice bitch with a lot to offer.

2. Gainfords Kevita's Sweet Crystal another merle with similar attributes, although not quite as glamorous as 1 but this young lady despite not being the best of colours had a rich tan, she had the most beautiful head and eye, when moving was quite happy with her tail, overall quite a nice bitch.

4. Barker's Sunnydairy Special Love.

GB. 9 (3). 1. Pierce'e Philhope Perfect Lady JW quite aptly named, almost 2yrs old she is a pale sable with elegance and length of body which I prefer, racy in outline, a wealth of coat, I feel she is perhaps carrying a little too much weight on her shoulders, as she can stand slackly in front at times, she has a good neck & outline, excellent depth & spring of rib, covering the ground well, she has a lovely head, and eye placement giving a very sweet expression, and beautiful ears.

2. Spooners Sonymer April Lassie Ticolour in full coat, smaller & much shorter in body than 1, but she is so sweet and feminine in outlook, she has a very rich tan, which enhanced her lovely head, with good stop and eye placement, good ears which she can use, good bone, and turn of stifle, and moved especially well.

3. Gainfords Kevita's Misty Dawn.

PGB 20 (6) 1. Pierce's Philhope First Lady JW I see is litter sister to the previous class winner,
Almost the same remarks apply, with the exception that her coat was not quite in the condition of her sister, she has the same overall profile and has the head and eye which I so admire, she moved very well with correct tail carriage, I did consider her for the Reserve CC, as I feel she is of the quality
To take further honours congratulations to her owners for breeding these two lovely bitches.

2. Evans Sonymer Laurel Lady, I see that she is a daughter of the lovely April Lassie, once again, she was the same type as her mother, being shorter coupled than 1, but in balance, she had everything, in proportion, with the same lovely head eye & expression, hindquarters, and movement, in superb coat, and condition.

3. Greenhill's Mohenesee Make Believe.

LB 22 (3) this class was a very good class but many were of different types, this class was headed by. Curtis's Rannerdale Kind of Majic at Shandawn I think she is typical of the type from this prefix, she had the elegance and outline which appeal, beautiful neck and shoulder, excellent reach of neck, excellent body lines, & showing herself so well, always standing correctly, she has a beautiful clean head, and super ear carriage, well placed eye giving a soft enquiring expression, she was carrying a good coat, which was well groomed. I would just liked to have seen a little more animation on the move.

2. Thomas' Myter Reach for the Moon, Merle which really pressed the winner hard, and it was not easy to place one above the other, as I think both were first class specimens, such a lovely bitch, ideal size and perfectly balanced, presented a pretty sheltie picture, yet she has substance, beautiful outline, lovely neck and level backline she is very feminine with good bone, and turn of stifle, the loveliest of heads, with correct stop, moulded foreface, well placed blue eyes and v.g. Ear carriage, not quite the furnishings & finish of the 1st, a close decision.

3. Cameron's Ronmere Crystal Blue.

OB. 26 (4) 1 What a class! With so many top quality bitches, even by short listing, I had to leave out many whom I would be proud to own, it was not easy to make a decision between them all, as each one of them typified the standard, with their own individual merits, I considered this class to be the best I have ever judged and my five placings were all top class bitches which I am sure will have their day.

1. Aarons Shelridge Sunshimmer JW and she was indeed endowed with shimmer, as she dazzled me with her elegance and femininity, and took my eye for her beautiful outline, I liked her stance, I liked the way she lifted her crested neck, and presented a beautiful picture from any angle, she has a beautiful clean head with correct parallel planes, together with just the right amount of stop, ears on top, and her beautiful dark almond eye giving the sweetest of expressions, she moved with grace round the ring, she has all the glamour and was beautifully presented. I could not deny her the CC in such excellent company.

2. Scotts Degallo Blonde Babe Res CC this was another bitch which gave of her best, with the neck & profile which so appeals to me, she has a lovely head with well filled flat skull, rather shorter throughout than Sunshimmer, but she was in superb coat and condition, with all the finish with lovely featherings, what impressed me the most about her, was her movement, she was so very lithe with excellent front extension, floating round the ring which was the deciding factor over 3 Staffords Ch Rannerdale Red Velvet whom I really fell for standing, as she had all the glamour and was presented in immaculate form, It was indeed a great experience to judge such an entry, and I thank you all for that privilege.
