LEEDS CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
23TH JULY 2007

ROUGH COLLIES

I thank all exhibitors for the good entry numerically; it was a pity that some of the classes were marred by absentees, which was quite understandable in the circumstances, owing to the serious weather conditions that affected different parts of country, which made it difficult for exhibitors to make the journey.

I was pleased with my main winners, although I was disappointed by the attendance in some of the dog classes, particularly in the later classes, it would have been interesting to see if the results would have been different had some of them attended.

What has happened to all our adult males?

In consequence I found the earlier classes more inspiring.

I found the bitch classes were very high in quality, and there were many I really liked, I was pleased with my challenge and feel nearly all my class winners could go on to greater things.

Dogs.

MPD. 11 (3) 1. Telfords Glenbowdene Chain Reaction. Lovely g/s of good size, by far the most mature in the class, carrying a wealth of coat, over excellent body lines, which was beautifully presented. Good outline, with excellent reach of neck, depth of rib, and good turn of stifle plus very good bone, he has a well moulded foreface, sufficient stop & good ears, he still needs time to settle a little more in head which for a young male is quite normal, he is most attractive when he relaxed & moved well over the uneven ground, with more ring experience, should give his owner quite a lot of fun.

2 .Jackson’s Mysticteam Quick Silver to Sassari, 7months merle not quite as mature as 1, he has a very nice head, eye & expression with beautiful neat ears, I would prefer him to be a little heavier in bone, his movement was good and he carried his tail down, I would just like a little more of him and at present he needs to clear in colour, however, with time and maturity will be heard of again.

3. Shutt & James. Tapena Take it to the Top with Jamesfair.

PD. 8. 1. Collins Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle, 11months. Very attractive sable of good size, excellent in overall profile, carrying a profuse coat, in excellent condition, which was beautifully presented, glorious arched neck, and he has glamorous markings to go with it, depth of rib, and excellent hindquarters, he moved particularly well with correct tail carriage, he has a very nice clean head, correct stop, and well placed dark eye giving the desired expression, beautifully placed ears, responding to his handler at all times, and well handled. BPIB.

2.. Hartley’s Roanburn Simply Red 10mnths g/s beautifully groomed, with excellent spring of and depth of rib, another of good size & substance and moved very well, gave of his best, using his well arched neck to show himself, he has a well placed eye and beautiful ears, I just found him a little deep through in head profile.

3. Llewellyns Salsina show Stopper.

JuniorD. 9 (2) 1. Smith’s Aldermeade Addition. Richly coloured sable of just 15mnths who took my eye immediately, impressed me greatly for his most beautiful head which quite captivated me, clean wedge with parallel planes, with correctly placed stop, moulded foreface and good underjaw and correct lip line, he possesses a most exquisite and beautiful dark eye giving that extra specially sweet expression which is such an integral part of the Collie standard, neat well placed ears, ideally, I would like a little more reach of neck, but I feel he is carrying a little too much coat over his shoulders which can detract, he has excellent body & bone, and he is especially good in hind action with correct tail carriage, he can be distracted at times, but when he comes together, and responds to his handler, he looked the worthy winner. This is a dog, which in my opinion can only go further as he matures. CC.

2. Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle.

3. Brown’s Lynmead Love me Do with Mertrisa.

Yearling D 3. (1) 1. Boyle’s Chantique Scrappy Doo sable just under 2yrs old, quite a nice head with well filled flat skull, and well placed eye giving a pleasant expression, unfortunately his ears are rather wide set, although he has a good body length and moved out very well both in front and behind, I would like to see a little better angulation behind and he is rather proud of his tail.

2. Avery’s Lynviews Lucas Tri clean refined head, nice dark eye well placed ears, good length of body, shown in good coat, and moved and handled well; unfortunately he was disturbed in the ring which affected his composure.

Gradute D. 4 (2). 1. Humphrey’s Shasam Sexton Blake this is a most attractive sable, presenting a good overall profile, good neck & shoulder, good body length straight front and good hindquarters, he has a correct head profile with parallel planes correct stop, dark almond eye giving a sweet expression, vg ears, using his ample neck to show himself, moved out well, it is a pity his poor tail carriage spoilt his chances in the challenge.

2. Chantique Scrappy Doo.

Post Graduate D. 8 (2) 1. Pitchfork’s Jaybid Hey Pronto. Upstanding male just 2yrs old, won this class on his overall profile, he has a most beautiful outline, ideally constructed, with superb neck & shoulder, with a huge collar to enhance the overall picture. Quite noble in outlook, excellent length of body. & depth of rib, shown in tremendous coat, excellent turn of stifle, he has a beautifully moulded head, with well filled flat skull, perceptible stop & moulding of foreface and strong underjaw, well placed eye and good ears, he would persist in sniffing the ground, which didn’t help his handler, the time he came together to respond to his handler transformed him altogether to command attention.

2. Olivers Marjalu Joyride. This sable has the most glorious head, plus a beautiful outline, his head and eye is quite something, and he responded to his handler continually, showing himself to advantage, showing off his good overall outline, he has a perfectly placed ear right on top, unfortunately, he did not have the finish of coat of the winner, yet for quality & type he appealed immensely, moved well, but his rather proud tail carriage let him down.

3. Grainger & Harris’s Carriswillow Riot at Samhaven.

Mid Limit D. 11 (3) 1 Sergeants Coarbeg Raphael. Took my eye as he entered the ring and he did not disappoint me on handling, medium sized male, who is a very sound moving dog, one of the few with reaching stride in profile with effortless gait, this is a male who is just coming into his prime, a shaded sable, carrying a good close fitting coat, in excellent condition, vg bodylines, with excellent depth & spring of rib, he has a lovely moulded head, with well filled foreface, correct stop, dark well placed eye, I feel he is a dog one needs to have patience with, to give him time to respond and then one cannot fail to appreciate the quality dog he is, I think he can only get better & better, and with more cooperation from him could eventually take top honours.

2. Radford’s Dravahland Dashing Daley. Bright g/s who’s steady showmanship enhanced all his qualities, he has a fabulous outline, glamorous colour and markings, superb neck & shoulder, close fitting coat, well angulated hindquarters, and beautifully presented, he has a clean refined head, sufficient stop, correctly placed eye, small neat ears which I personally feel have been over trimmed, he moved especially well, I would just prefer him to be a little heavier throughout.

3. Masons Glenspey Highalnd Dusk.

Limit D. not the strongest class. 7 (1) 1. Hassocks Lynmead Lucky In Love at Camanna, typical of his breeding, he is a quality dog who’s greatest asset is his most beautiful eye & expression, he also has beautiful neat ears, he has a straight front and good hind angulation and moved so soundly which won him the class, today he was not in his best coat, I would have preferred him to be heavier in body, and would like him a little bigger.

2. Boyle’s Jemara Striker at Jimjack came up from the previous class, 6yr old merle, he possesses a lovely dark eye, flat skull and good ears, and he is rather deep in stop, although he showed himself well. Moved quite well, but rather proud of his tail.

3. Cutlers Brilyn Back in Black at Japeka

Open D. 8 (3) 1. Oliver’s Salsina So Handsome at Rixown 6yr pale g/s shown in wonderful coat & condition, fully mature & expertly presented, he is a medium sized well balanced dog, and while he is somewhat shorter in head than I would prefer, it was in proportion to the whole, he possesses a flat skull, moulded foreface, definite stop well placed eye & good ears, adequate neck, showing himself to advantage on a loose lead, he has good depth & spring of rib, and well angulated hindquarters, moved well on the uneven ground, and gave of his best throughout, it was interesting for me to learn that I awarded the CC to his litter sister ( in different ownership) 4yrs ago at the C.A., therefore this male had similar appeal I see he is a son of the beautiful Delbar Cherish the Love, he was quietly & competently handled Res CC

2. Milligan’s Alfden Circle of Life. Merle. Lovely outline, superbly presented, super neck, rather dark in colour, all male with good length of body, I would prefer to see him a little better in stop, although he has a well placed dark eye, ears are a little heavy, moved well.

3. Coulsons Blue Chip Spirit in the Skye.

Bitches.

MPB. 9 (1) 1. Mays MacQeeba Seventh Heaven. Six and half months g/s sable baby, very nice outline, good length of body, , clean refined head, well filled skull, good ears, and well placed almond eye, moved quite well for a baby just need to have more experience to respond, a little happy with her tail.

2. Murphy’s Sandcourt Rose Gold in my notes I thought they could well be litter sisters, as similar remarks apply, in fact they both were half sisters, this little girl was 7months, and appeared quite sweet in outlook, although at this stage is a little heavy in ears, and understandably fidgety. Good body lines, with correct tail carriage, she did not have the hindquarters of 1 and she requires a little more time as she was a little bewildered by the proceedings.

3. Avery’s Arronwell Anne Marie.

PB (13 (3) 1. Brown’s Jopium Simply Silk at Metrisa. I see she is litter sister to the Best Puppy Dog, and they are both so similar, in markings and stance, What a glamour puss she is, shown in tremendous coat with all the furnishings and has a stunning profile, swan like neck, enhanced by a full white collar to give a wonderful outline, plus she was so sound on the move, she had exceptionally good hind angulations,. I know every handler will try to show their exhibit to their best advantage, which applied in this instance, however, I felt her lead was far too tight whereby she was almost choking, her excellent stance could have been achieved on a looser lead, she had beautiful ears, and well placed eye, definite stop, and every hair was sparkling, a most promising puppy. BPB.

2. Avery’s Aaronwell Anne Marie came up from a previous class, again my eye was taken by her lovely outline, which indeed this bitch has, good neck & shoulder, length of body, clean refined head, good ears, well placed dark eye, & good underjaw & lip line, moved quite well, patiently handled.

3. LLewellyns Salsina Sealed With a Kiss.

Junior B. 10 (5) 1. South’s Carristina Femme Fatale Del Uffspring another bitch who came up from a previous class, appealed for type and outline, clean head, well placed eye, good front and hindquarters, moved quite well, she was inclined to show her veins and while she has good ears, they would benefit from a little trimming as there were profuse untidy hairs protruding around them, moved well

2. Smitz Levenbank Tinkle Winkie this bitch had no collar to set her apart, but this was no detriment as her overall outline was so attractive, very good hind angulation and moved well, she has a nice head,. Although I would like a little more strength in under jaw. Beautifully placed ears and well placed eye.

3. Brookers Caronlea Celtic Connection with Corisian

YB. 3.(1) 1. Franks Danfrebeck Truly Madly Deeply with Alanita JW. I have seen this bitch as a puppy, and have always admired her, she presents a very good profile and she is a nice size, and handled to every advantage, she is feminine with a pretty outlook, she has the most lovely eye & expression and super ears, stands and shows herself all the time, she has glamorous markings to go with it, which enhanced her good outline, she has great depth of rib and excellent hind angulation, I would just like to see a little more length in leg, one who will gain notable wins in the future.

2. Claphams Mosspark Sugar N Spice. Slightly longer bitch than 1, consequently a little more rangy, came up from reserve in a previous class, she has a nice clean head, and well placed eye, very good ears, she just needs to develop further in body which should improve after a litter. Moved well.

GB. 10 (2) 1. Sibbald’s Lynmead Love Me Too at Telforth I have always admired this bitch who is completely balanced throughout, well constructed and her handler had groomed her to perfection, she is a quality bitch that has notable virtues, being feminine with substance, she moved out well, pretty outlook, she has a beautifully moulded head, with well placed dark eye, and super ears, which she used constantly. A serious contender for top honours, I feel she is one who has great potential to take her title.

2. Harvey’s Wicani China Doll Aptly named merle who actually sparkled, she is so full of quality, her movement was a great example for the breed, she gave me goose bums to see such drive and soundness, she has a nice dark eye, a longer and more refined head than 1, and not quite the definition in stop, she is a good colour and has all the glamour and furnishings to present a stunning picture, with super neck and body length, I feel her ears could have been higher, and her handler was clever in the way she camouflaged this, personally, I would have proffered a more natural stance, nevertheless her placing was no disgrace against the first, she will always be recognised by the specialist, but also she is an all rounders dream. Two lovely bitches.

3. Souths Carristina Bonne Fille Avec Uffspring

PGB 15 (4) 1. Loaders Redola Kiss and Cherish. For me the obvious winner, she had such feminine appeal with glorious outline, although she is beginning to lose some of her coat in the middle, even so, she had all the featherings to finish the picture, excelling in reach of neck & outline, with full collar into the bargain.

I have judged her before and gave her BPIB, now she is just three years old and in her prime, she has matured on the right lines, as she is ideally constructed and has excellent hindquarters, I liked her head with well placed eye and good ears, very competently handled and moved so soundly.

2. Souths Carristina Bonne Fille Avec Uffspring this bitch came up from the previous class, just 2yrs old, she is quite a nice bitch with moulded head, well placed eye and ears, quite a sound mover, with good length of body and has good bone and substance.

3. Browns Gemastra Just one look with Metrisa

MLB 6 1. Patterson’s Treeview Pursuit of Dreams JW . This bitch I have never seen before, at 2yrs old she is outstanding for type, very much what I like, so feminine and portrays a lovely picture from any angle.

Her good neck & shoulder was emphasised by glamorous markings, plus she had the correct balance with no exaggeration, excellent overall profile, and good backline and hindquarters, she is also good in movement, most lovely head with correct stop, flat skull moulded foreface, super ears, she also has a well placed eye giving a sweet expression, although to be critical I would prefer them a little darker, she gave her all, and I was not surprised to learn afterwards she has done a great deal of winning, I am sure she will continue her winning ways in the future. Reserve CC.

2. Humphrey’s Shasam Sexcuse Me this is another bitch I have judged as a puppy, and thought her exceptionally promising, I have no reason to change my opinion of her as she has matured on the right lines, and will win more often than not, she is ultra feminine in outlook and has beautiful stance in profile, excellent overall outline, with reach of neck set in good shoulders, straight front, strong back line, and excellent turn of stifle, she has such a pretty head, with flat skull, lovely eye & expression, super ears, her handler always achieves the best from her exhibits, moved well, unfortunately, she is rather a clown and full of mischief, which showed in her tail carriage, will often be at the top of the line.

3. Cozens & Buckley’s Stokedale Solitaire at Byllsacre.

LB 9 (4) the first three were all beautiful bitches and can change places on a different occasion.
1. Bedfords Sachenda Say it with Roses. Most of the exhibits from this kennel I seem to have a penchant towards, nearly always are they identical in type and this bitch is no exception, so very feminine, with a most beautiful correct head, with perfect moulding, she has a flat skull, correctly placed stop, lovely dark eye giving a sweet expression, beautifully placed ears using them constantly, good neck & shoulder, length of body and hind angulation, moved soundly, a very nice overall bitch

2. Hartley’s Geosamka Just a Babe One I have liked and placed previously, shown in full coat and well put together, she has substance yet feminine, quite glamorous with ideal markings shown in wonderful bloom, well developed in body with good depth and spring of rib, excellent turn of stifle, beautifully moulded head, super ears, and handled to perfection, while she has a well placed eye she did not quite match the sweetness in expression of the first, moved so very well, a close decision, which made it hard for me to separate them

3. Smiths Aldermeade Heidi Klum

OB. 5 (3) 1. Grainger’s Samhaven Toast of the Isles at Ribans. When I saw this bitch come into the ring, she took my breath away for her unmistakable quality, completely balanced, gorgeous bright g/s in the peak of condition, she has a wonderful overall profile, shown on a loose lead, standing away from her handler, and in my opinion, a good example of how a Collie should be handled, she has an excellent top line, straight front, well angulated hindquarters, ample neck, good shoulders and upper arm, she has the most lovely clean wedge head, so feminine, flat skull, correct stop, beautiful eye giving the sweetest expression, she has all the glamour even to a small white smudge at the end of her muzzle so seldom seen, well placed ears, and showing steadily. She is such a sound moving bitch both in front and behind and has virtues in abundance, it gave me great pleasure to award her the CC & BOB and I congratulate her on achieving Group 2.

2. Sergeants Coarbeg Die Fledermaus darker sable a very sound bitch all through without any exaggeration, well developed body, with good depth and spring of rib, moved well, she has a clean head, correct stop, well placed eye and good ears, nice sensible showmanship and handled very well.
