The Norwegian Collie Club 25th Anniversary Show
27 th May, 2007
ROUGH & SMOOTH COLLIES, SHETLAND SHEEPDOGS
It was indeed a pleasure to be invited to judge The Norwegian Collie Club 25 th Anniversary show on the 27 th May 2007.
The weather was a little cold and windy but highly suitable for the dogs, I was made very welcome by Secretary Arne Baerum and Matte (chairman).
And the venue was ideally situated.
There was a splendid array of Rosettes, Trophy’s and Ribbons on view. Along with special prizes and beautiful bouquets which were eventually presented to the winners.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Exhibits, and felt both the exhibitors and exhibits coped well with the new Kennel Club rule of measuring the Collies!
Obviously this took a little extra time, but in general the Collies accepted my approach with remarkable calm.
I was impressed with the general outline of many of the Collies, there were only one or two with short necks, and overall, movement was good.
I found good bone and hind angulation, one or two were rather fine throughout, and some were rather full in eye, however, overall, I think the heads have improved a great deal since my last visit to Stavanger 17years ago, and presentation was also much better.
I was pleased with my principle winners, the lovely Rough Collie bitch Rudangens Exact a Ruby was very feminine with lovely outline, and a lovely head, with parallel planes and a sweet eye and expression, and so sound on the move, at only two years old she won the day.
The Tricolour Male Engiandina High Hope was my Reserve B.O.B. and this win gave him his Champion Title on the day, he was a masculine male with great substance and coat, he had a beautifully moulded head, and lovely eye & expression.
Congratulations go to his owner on gaining his title.
The Smooth Collie B.O.B. was Sandcastle’s All About ME A very upstanding tricolour, with glamorous markings giving a very noble outlook, he presented a good overall profile and was typical of his breeding.
The Shetland Sheepdogs were mixed in type, but there were some very nice exhibits on view, and they were all especially well trained. my B.O.B. was the charming 9months old sable puppy Joylands Friends Enough who won me over for her beautiful elegant outline, she had a close fitting coat, and just stood and showed off her beautiful reach of neck, and lovely head eye and expression, and neat expressive ears. She was an absolute delight.
I feel a special mention must go to the puppies, the very nice tricolour Rough Collie - A Raising Star.
This was her owners first show, and what a beginning!!, she showed a great deal of promise, with a lovely head an eye, and carrying a very good coat.
The Shetlands Sheepdogs B.O.B. puppy, Gosbackens Oliver Zonett. was a most beautiful specimen, he has almost everything one could wish for at this stage, he is still only very young, but has so much promise, I am sure with luck and development he will have a very bright future ahead of him, he was a pleasure to look at.
I would like to thank my very competent ring secretary Aileen, who was very efficient with her writing, and I am sure she must have had writers cramp after the show.??!!
I would like to thank all the officials and committee for their kind hospitality, and for making the show so enjoyable for me, and especially for inviting me to judge this special show..
May I wish the Norwegian Collie Club in Stavanger and all the members, continued success, and I thank them all for making the journey to show their dogs to me.
EVERY GOOD WISH FOR THE FUTURE.
